Wasson-ECE was contracted to develop GC solutions for a pioneering marine refinery project that required comprehensive gas chromatography capabilities within the severe space constraints of a ship-based laboratory.
The novel-design refinery vessel presented unique challenges including limited laboratory footprint, weight restrictions, vibration tolerance, and the need for multi-application analytical flexibility to support diverse petrochemical processing operations at sea. Traditional shore-based laboratory configurations were incompatible with the ship's spatial limitations and operational requirements, necessitating a completely customized approach to deliver full analytical capability in a fraction of the typical laboratory space while maintaining the precision and reliability demanded by refinery operations.
Wasson-ECE worked closely with the contractors throughout the process to help clearly define the required applications. Defining the expected sample composition was crucial in determining the number of instruments required to meet the very specific needs of a ship and laboratory of this nature. Each instrument was developed with the capability to process numerous methods/applications in order to maximize the functionality of each instrument in the small space. Wasson-ECE worked closely with representatives from numerous companies/sectors throughout this project to provide the best solution for this complex and restrictive environment.
