A plant on an island in the southern Pacific Ocean had some Wasson-ECE instruments, and some instruments from a different vendor. The instruments from a different vendor were unable to determine the concentration of one compound to the guidelines laid out in the specifications by the company taking possession of the product produced in this plant. While the Wasson instruments easily determined the concentration to far below that required by the specifications, the samples run on the other instruments did not meet the required specifications. As a result, the customer would not take delivery of the product, and supertankers were being charged demurrage at a very high hourly rate. A Wasson-ECE team was brought in to re-applicate the other instruments so that they would meet the specifications required by the customer. Meanwhile, the samples were processed on the existing Wasson instruments, and eventually the supertankers were able to move on and offload the product.
